上方山位于北京西南房山區境內，系太行山支脈，距京城約70公裏，面積353.3公頃，森林覆蓋率達90%以上。上方山以奇峰、異洞、寺庵、流泉、古木而聞名于世。其群峰峻秀,草木繁茂，名勝密布，風光雄渾，有"燕郊諸山之冠"的美譽。是國家級的大型森林公園。
上方山境内山高峰奇，林木繁多，洞穴深奥，寺庙古老，以“九洞十二峰七十二茅庵”著称。境内环境优雅、景色优美、空气清新，使历代游人赋予了“南有苏杭，北有上方”和“幽燕古奥室”的美称。其主要特点是：一是“古”。 境内古树名木多，古老的寺庙始建于东汉，距今已有1900多年；二是“野”。从进入上方山开始，即走上步步登高山路，沿途可见奇峰怪石、茂密森林和众多野生植物。
山上有九洞十二峰，雲水洞与天柱峰均是姣姣者。发汗岭极为险恶，有明代开凿于陡崖上的磴道262级，似"天梯"，令人眩目刺激。 该山寺庵荟萃，共有72座之多。华严寺建于东汉，有两千多年悠久历史，相传开山祖师华严禅师就住于此。兜率寺为众寺庵之中心，建于隋唐时代，院内有经幢、碑刻、壁画等文物珍品可览。
上方山三寶“香椿、黃精、拐棗”享譽國內外；三是“新”。進入山境自覺空氣清新，氣候宜人；四是“聯”。上方山周口店、雲居寺、石花洞、十渡等景區聯網成片，是京郊不可多得的休閑渡假的好去處。...
